Connections

Doing International Political Sociology connects to and supports selective outside activities that sustain and develop networks and intellectual sites in International Political Sociology:

  • London IPS Network

The London Node of Doing IPS brings together UK-based researchers from London and beyond that adopt methodologically varied and theoretically transdisciplinary approaches to engage contemporary challenges to instituted relations between the social, political and international. The London Node organises an annual PhD Seminar Series and Spring Symposium, alongside workshops, roundtables, book-launches and other academic and public events. The network is co-convened by Jef Huysmans and Mirko Palestrino in the School of Politics and International Relations at Queen Mary University of London and Audrey Alejandro in the London School of Economics. The London network also comprises a larger IPS node in the School of Politics and International Relations at Queen Mary University of London, including Giulia Carabelli, Jaakko Heiskanen, Niharika Pandit, and Alex Stoffel besides Jef Huysmans and Mirko Palestrino, as well as Alvina Hoffmann and Hannah Owens (RHUL).

  • Rede IPS Brasil – IPS Brazil Network

Brazilian network of researchers in International Political Sociology. The IPS Brazil network gathers researchers from different backgrounds and academic institutions in Brazil and other Latin American countries. It aims to create common spaces for meeting, presenting and discussing research that works across the social sciences and the humanities and which entail critical reflections about contemporary world politics. The network runs a PhD workshop series, lectures and discussion seminars. It also facilitates the development of collective work, such as conference panels, edited volumes and collective articles. The network aims at promoting innovative approaches in international political sociology from the Global South.

  • Swiss IPS Working Group

The Swiss Political Science Association hosts a working group International Political Sociology (IPS). IPS is a distinct and rapidly growing field of research in International Relations and Political Science. IPS draws on a variety of approaches ranging from critical theory, materialist, feminist, post-structuralist, and post-colonial approaches to analyse contemporary world politics. Standing at the intersection of International Relations, Political Theory and Critical Sociology, it provides distinct analytical perspectives and empirical research strategies. The IPS Working Group endeavours to provide a platform for presenting and debating IPS research; to foster collaboration and exchange between scholars working in IPS; to support the development of junior Swiss or Switzerland-based researchers working in this tradition; and to strengthen national and international scholarly networks, and to promote dialogue with other specialised subfields of political science.
