Connections

Doing International Political Sociology connects to and supports selective outside activities that sustain and develop networks and intellectual sites in International Political Sociology:

  • Research Group in IPS, School of Politics and IR, QMUL

The Research Group in IPS brings together researchers based at the School of Politics and International Relations (SPIR) at Queen Mary University of London that adopt methodologically varied and theoretically transdisciplinary approaches to engage contemporary challenges to instituted relations between the social, political and international. The RGIPS organises an annual Spring Symposium and ‘Polyphonic Encounters’: a series of workshops, roundtables, book-launches and other academic and public events. The Research Group is co-convened by Jef Huysmans and Mirko Palestrino and funded by SPIR.

  • Rede IPS Brasil – IPS Brazil Network

Brazilian network of researchers in International Political Sociology. The IPS Brazil network gathers researchers from different backgrounds and academic institutions in Brazil and other Latin American countries. It aims to create common spaces for meeting, presenting and discussing research that works across the social sciences and the humanities and which entail critical reflections about contemporary world politics. The network runs a PhD workshop series, lectures and discussion seminars. It also facilitates the development of collective work, such as conference panels, edited volumes and collective articles. The network aims at promoting innovative approaches in international political sociology from the Global South.

  • IPS Belgium Network

IPS Belgium is a platform for scholars to present and debate their research. It aims to create a space for discussions and to foster collaborations for anyone sharing an interest in the conceptual, ontological and methodological implications of the IPS perspective. From PhD candidates to senior scholars, all humanities and social sciences researchers are welcomed to participate in the seminar and present their work. The IPS Belgium first seminar series started in February 2021.

  • IPS in Switzerland

The purpose of the DoingIPS Switzerland initiative is to complement the work of the IPS Working Group at the annual Swiss Political Science Association (SPSA) conference by strengthening connections between the vibrant and growing community of IPS scholars based in Switzerland and those engaged across Europe and globally within the dynamic DoingIPS ecosystem. In this spirit, we aim to foster an open and inclusive space for critical, cross-disciplinary exchange and collaboration among junior and senior scholars committed to advancing the field of International Political Sociology. Looking ahead, we plan to host an annual transnational symposium to connect DoingIPS Switzerland with other hubs abroad, as well as biannual PhD workshops rotating across Swiss institutions.

  • IPS France (SPI France)

IPS France (SPI France) is a collective of researchers aiming at first to open up a space for the socialization of young researchers wishing to participate in the standardization of transnational objects through social sciences theories and methods. It has later expanded its network of researchers so to continue to decompartmentalize academic spaces interested in international objects. The unifying base of the research network is to draw discussions from the French political sociology theories to put them in dialogue with other sub-fields of social sciences and international productions in political sociology of the international. The collective is originally coordinated by Quentin Deforge (IRD, UMR 8586 PRODIG), Aykiz Dogan (Université Paris 1, UMR 201 DEVSOC), Natália Frozel Barros (IEP de Fontainebleau, Université Paris-Est Créteil, LIPHA) and Maïlys Mangin (Université de Toulouse, IDETCOM) through the organization of the research seminar “Political Sociology of the International”. It also facilitates the organization of research panels in international political science meetings.
