International Writing Workshops “IPS: Transversal Writing and Publishing II”

We held a great International Writing Workshop at PUC-Rio on 25 and 26 June. It was the final meeting following a 12-month mentoring process that supported Early Career Researchers from Brazil, Argentina and Colombia in preparing an article for submission to an international journal. In addition to exchanging feedback to fine-tune the papers before submission, we had some great discussions on a range of topics, including reparations in international criminal tribunals, narratives of refugeeness, citizen security and militarisation in Latin America, militarisation of illegal fishing in the South Atlantic, child soldiers and the temporal orders in international relations, the status-seeking of emerging states and conflicting imaginations of the future, the significance of the wet materiality of the Arctic for the understanding of international politics, and how focusing on the world of wealth offers a distinctive approach to the modern international.

Following the workshop, we launched a new mentoring process for six Early Career Researchers from Latin America. Kyle Grayson (Newcastle University) led and facilitated initial writing sessions that ran over several days as part of the 11th Edition of the International Political Sociology Winter School at PUC-Rio.

The workshops were funded by a British Academy International Writing Workshops Alumni Programme grant (ref: IWWAF21\100027) and co-organised by Jef Huysmans (QMUL) and João P. Nogueira (PUC-Rio).
